Duku langsat (top) & Mangosteen (bottom)

Duku and langsat are two varieties of the same species. The fruit grows in clusters with separate segments. The skin of the langsat is pale yellow and thin, exuding a sticky sap when peeled, the duku is larger with a slightly darker brownish and thicker skin, with no sap. Both fruits are best eaten when ripe, try not to bite the seed which has a bitter taste. Duku langsat (photo) is a new cross between the langsat and the duku, has the best qualities of both these fruits – a thinner skin from the langsat and a firmer & sweeter flesh from the duku!
Mangosteen (see glossary on mangosteen tree)
