Jantung pisang ( literally means “heart” of the banana) or Banana blossom/flower plant
The dark purple egg-shaped at the end of a bunch of bananas is the flowering part of the banana plant. Used in salads or curries, the thick outer leaves are removed until the pale yellow tender bud in the centre (as in artichokes) is exposed. In between the leaves are tiny, immature bananas – discard them. Cut the young bud in half and blanched in salted boiling water until cooked.Removed, drained well and sliced.
