Kai Lan (Chinese broccoli)

Also known as Chinese kale, Chinese broccoli is a strongly flavoured leafy vegetable, descended from wild abbage, which has been cultivated for thousand s of years and there are a great many cultivars.
Closely related to European broccoli, it is distinguished from European kale and other brassicas by its white flowers and a soft white bloom on the greenis-blue leaves.The entire plant can be eaten but stems on older plants must be peeled.They are popular steamed, blanched or stir-fried with ginger or laced with oyster sacue. Commonly served in yum cha resataurants. Chinese broccoli can be substituted in any recipe calling for broccoli or other Asian greens.
